Tainan Public Hall & Garden of Wu

The Tainan Public Hall was built in 1911, using a part of land from the Garden of Wu. It was once an important meeting place for Tainan citizens. A building with such function was commonly set up in every major city during the Japanese Period to propagandize the orders from the colonial government and indoctrinate the civilians. At the rear of the Tainan Public Hall lies the remaining Garden of Wu after being occupied by public facilities since the Japanese Period. The Garden of Wu may be originally built in the 17th century, and then rebuilt by a salt merchant, Shang-Hsin Wu, during the Tao-Kuang period (1821กใ1850) of Ching Dynasty. At the present site, we can still see facilities such as pavilions, terraces, towers, artificial hills and ponds. And especially, the most attractive scenery is the imitation of Fei-lai Peak.
